What's this...
Is... is Dijon posting?!
-__-
Well once again  find myself in Korea, and so far it has been a bit of a roller coaster ride.
that started with a 2 hr ride to D.C. to catch my plane and ends right now with two sore pinkie toenails.
View from the plane
Ready for the long flight
My temporary bed
First off, after being cramped in a car for 2 hrs to reach the airport, I almost missed my plane due to me over packing (which is totally not my fault nor is it due to my slight shopping addiction) and having to switch things between bags as quickly as possible. After my family half stressed me to death by telling me the time and what I should get rid of, I hurriedly made my way to my gate only to be stopped by the longest security line in the world. People's planes were taking off left and right and the people (who had like 4 mins left to get to their plane, mind you) were trying to cut the line but at this point I was getting a bit ruthless because it was 12:45 and my plane finished boarding at 1:00pm. I told one man he couldn't go ahead and he looked back at his family and said "We can't go ahead, they wont let us go ahead".... you darn skippy I wasn't letting him go. they took the chance of coming late: not my fault ( see? ruthless aren't I?).
But despite my gamble with fate, 22 hrs and one delay later, I was in Korea. With the help of my Korean friend, Dave, and my host in Seoul, I managed to make it to my lodgings with no trouble.
So me being the adventurous type, I decide to explore around (at about 1:30 am after showering and settling), but first I needed cash, of course!! I go up to the ATM and everything was fine.. until I dropped my cad in between the cracks of the wooden porch. You'll understand my distress when you know that it was my main card to withdraw money. As I stared down in shock, my mind started to race and I ran into the convenience shop that the porch was apart of. I tried my best in both English and Korean to explain to the shop clerk what had happened to my card. he looked sufficiently apologetic

when he mimed to me that he didn't know how to help me. As I sat outside crying a little, the clerk came back outside with a pair of chopsticks. At that point,I just wanted to get my card, no matter what it took. After 5 pairs of chopsticks, and a dozen Korean people who prob think I am crazy, =, I got my card back somehow. It was a horrific experience, and I am still traumatized by it. that was just the first day, too! I passed my test so can we not throw anymore curve balls, Fate?
It's a wonder  even come outside....

Day 2

I went to Hongdae day two of my trip to Seoul. For those of you who don’t know what a hongdae is, it is the place where all the hip, club hoppers go at night to live their lives. But, excuse my bad grammar, I ain’t ‘bout that life. So when I say I went to Hongdae, is say it with jazz hands and sarcastic smileJ. Basically unimpressed.
Anywho…
I woke up at 3 am and skyped my sis Wednesday. She wanted me to show her the apartment I am staying in, so I gave her the sit down tour: 1 foot in front of me is the apartment door, 2 feet left is the kitchen/ laundry room, and 3 feet is the bathroom. These are all very accurate measurements, I swear…
I walked around Jongno- gu, where I was staying, until I stumbled upon the actual place that I was supposed to be going. I, of course had a concrete plan that morning and directions, but again, maps only do so much for me. In fact, lots of people pointed me DIRECTLY to where I need to go, but I somehow still got lost. So I went to Cheongye stream, a place that used to be a dump but the government made it into a very pretty stream. It supposedly REALLY pretty in the summer and spring, so, of course it was lack luster that day. It was pretty, but no sun that day You will notice a pattern of disappointment on this day, so don’t be too hopeful (like I was).
me, all happy on my way to getting lost
After, I walked around the local shops and shopped a little and finally gave up and took a cab to Gyenbok castle, and looked around the outside of the castle because  I more of a “outside of the castles” person.  Castles are pretty and interesting and all, but I was not mystified enough to pay to go in. I then caught the Seoul tour bus around… Seoul, and I think on that day I was most happy on that tour bus; no walking no heat, it was heaven.
The chips the old lady stuffed in my mouth
On the tour bus
I sat down on the top floor of the bus when a trio of little old ladies began to shuffle their way to the top of the bus, also, and let me tell ya: those were the cutest little old ladies I have ever seen. When the one who sat beside me found I was alone on the bus, she proceeded to grandmother me and to feed me some chips and slap some gum into my hand. We had about as much conversation as ones can have with the language barrier. I did appreciate that lady because she helped me with my stops and gave me some company.
There are a lot of Makeup stores
Korean Graffiti
Umm I am glad the are celebarting safe sex
Next was Hongdae and the pursuit of Simon and Martina! I explored Hongdae with blind eyes because I had no Idea it was Hongdae until I walked into Zara (!) and asked “Hongdae odisoyo?” and the cashier made big waving motions indicating that it was where we were. I walked out of the store (with a new purse (that I don’t need)) and off to Eat your Kimchi. Now In hindsight, EYK is maybe 10 mins away, but it took about 45 mins to find it, with google maps and another cab break. But when I did, it felt like the rays of the sun had emergAdd captioned from the hazy mist of Seoul and I had found every heaven opened and angels were singing. It was magical. Until I walked up to the third floor and it was locked. EYK is on the
4th floor….
That was all I did that day, and I am not sure how my heart took all of the disappointment.
Big Bang socks
Maybe I should call this blog The Days of Disappointments

Day 1

Umm... so I am in Seoul... no biggie…

My sister marching me to Security

Half of the things I have done for my flights I have not seen on tv; you have let me down tv.
I got to the Airport at 4am and went through everything easier than I thought I would. I was pretty sure that I would get tackled by the TSA, but the worst I got was the disposal of my most cherished possession: my shea butter *sob*.Maybe I should have done more research on what I COULDN'T bring on the plane. After, I got on a shuttle which felt like I was on my way to Hogwarts…except it wasn't a train, or in England, or as magical.  Nothing to say about the flights except 18 AND A HALF HOURS!!!

View of Japan, San Fran to Seoul

And Bad luck seems to have followed me from the U.S. because as soon as I got dropped off in my area, I got lost.  I stood on the side of the road looking clueless until someone with good English strolled along and told me that maybe I needed a cab. I don’t know why I thought that I, the person who got lost going to
Van Wyck from 39th street, would suddenly gain a sense of direction on the other side of the world…
I finally got to my place, notified the troops that I was safe and sound, and decided that maybe I needed a shower, ya know, to wash of the top layer of my skin before I went exploring. But before I could do anything, I had to get INTO the place. I ended up asking the apartment’s offices for help with the keypad from hell, and set out for adventure.

Explorin'

Unpacked and ready
I started to walk around the neighborhood at around 7, and got back in at 10 something. In that time, I noticed two types of Korean people: the ones who stared, and the ones who were bold enough to ask me where I was from. Someone actually stopped me to ask me where I needed to go (I must have looked really lost). He was the second person actually, and the drunkest, and it was at that time that I decided to go back, and also the time that I got lost… again

Raided the convenience store

Maybe I should name this blog “Lost in Korea”…
And,Thank you, Korean People, For putting with my struggly Korean…
